our history

CHANGING THE GAME SINCE THE 1930S

During the Great Depression, shoe cobbler Orley Rogers began responding to the need of budget-strapped football coaches to repair damaged football equipment. This opportunistic shoe cobbler set in motion the company we see today. Orley would gather the dirty, worn protective gear from high schools across the state of Michigan and then clean and repair it for the next season. In the winter of 1968, Detroit Lions head coach, Joe Schmidt, asked for help to develop a new dummy. The dummy was a perfect solution to teach the new heads-up blocking scheme being used by the pros. At that point, the business transitioned from providing a service to being a manufacturing operation. From there, Rogers Athletic began developing sleds and the company has continued to evolve to where we are today.
