Elbow Extension

The tricep brachii is the only muscle that lies along the posterior humerus, that is the long bone of the upper arm that runs from the shoulder to elbow. The triceps role in movement is elbow extension. This bi-articulate muscle crosses the elbow and operates as a third class lever, which means the effort is always greater than the load. The good news is that load moves further than the effort.

The triceps consists of three different muscle segments, medial, lateral and long heads, all attaching to the elbow. What’s interesting from a training perspective is the medial head is involved in all forms of extension, while the long and lateral heads become active only when the elbow is extended against resistance.
