Endurance exercise training has always been the choice of health professionals for reducing fat and increasing the size of the oxidative type I or slow fibers.  Strength training is associated with increased protein synthesis and the growth of type II or fast fiber.  It appears based on today’s research that increasing skeletal muscle adjusts whole-body metabolism and is an effective way in combating diet-induced obesity.  If your New Year’s resolution is to reduce your body fat make sure you add strength training to your aerobics to accelerate the process.
